The VSME Medals journey aims to structure a company's ESG approach up to an independent recognition of its maturity. It is organised in 5 key steps, with an independent documentary audit carried out by SMT. Beyond attribution, each company embarks on a path of continuous progression: maintenance via an annual update and a simplified audit, or progression to a higher level via a full audit. The accredited partner supports the company up to and including the preparation of the audit file, but never performs the audit or grants the medal.

Initiate the process and orient the company.
Qualification & scoping
Define the right medal level and the scope.
- Quick ESG maturity diagnostic
- Definition of the scope (entity, activity, period)
- Identification of the target level
- Alignment with the company's resources
- Agreement on a planned dossier submission date, set jointly by the company (and its accredited partner, if any). This date is editable in the company and partner spaces; once passed, access is automatically locked until SMT reactivates it.
Deliverable: Proposal for support towards the audit
Engagement & contracting
Frame the process and launch the journey.

Reach the required level before audit.

Carried out with an accredited partner or independently. This step is independent of SMT.
Build an auditable file compliant with the VSME Medals framework.
- Completed VSME questionnaire
- Structured documentary evidence
- Completed audit-preparation sheet
- Accepted data collection tools: the VSME Medals data collection tool; the EFRAG VSME Excel (Bronze and Silver tiers); and government-recognised tools fully aligned with the VSME standard (Bronze and Silver tiers), such as ESGKube (Belgium) or Portail RSE (France).
File submitted to SMT or access to the accredited platform provided to SMT.
